MS Excel adheres to the standard order of calculation and will calculate percentages, exponenets, multiplications, and division in order. For an example, follow these steps:
- First, open a spreadsheet or create a new file.
- Enter =7+5*3 and the result will be 22, not 36. The multiplication is done first, then the addition.
- Now, use parenthesis to change the order of the calculation.
- Enter =(7+5)*3 = 36. Parenthesis make the difference.
